Dziwny biały królik i tajemniczy Kot z Cheshire, gruba Księżna, jajowaty Humpty Dumpty i bajeczny Jabberwocky, wymarły Dodo czy hałaśliwe bliźniaki Tweedle Dee i Tweedle Dum: w żadnym wypadku nie są to miłe postacie z nieszkodliwej dziecięcej opowieści, ale absurdalni przedstawiciele dziwacznej logiki absurdu i ukrytego pragnienia. Matematyk, pisarz i fotograf Lewis Carroll wymyślił je, aby zabawiać swoje małe przyjaciółki i zebrał ich historie w dwóch powieściach – „Alicja w Krainie Czarów” i „Po drugiej stronie lustra” – które stały się klasyką literatury światowej.
Twórcy „Piosenek dla Alicji” sięgnęli po wiersze z obu tomów i przekształcili je w sceny i piosenki. Lalkarz i muzycy przenoszą nas w lunatyczną strefę zmierzchu wyobraźni i momentów objawień, które odpowiadają na pytanie, dlaczego teksty Carrolla nie są tylko wspaniałą literaturą dla dzieci, ale także zainspirowały wielu artystów, takich jak pisarz James Joyce, surrealistów takich jak André Breton, kognitywistów takich jak Douglas R. Hofstadter czy brytyjską grupę komediową Monty Python.
Strange white rabbit and mysterious Cheshire Cat, fat Duchess, egg faced Humpty Dumpty and fabulous Jabberwocky, extinct Dodo and rowdy twins Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum: By no means are they nice figures out of a harmless children’s story, but ludicrous representatives of a bizarre logic of the absurd and of an underlying desire. The mathematician, writer and photographer Lewis Carroll invented them to entertain his little girlfriends and collected their stories in the two novels “Alice in Wonderland“ and “Through the Looking Glass“, which became classics of the world literature.
“Songs for Alice“ extracts poems from both volumes and transforms them into scenes and songs. Puppeteer and musicians carry us off into a somnambulant twilight zone of imagination and moments of revelation which show, why Carroll’s texts aren’t just great children’s literature but also inspire a diversity of writers like James Joyce, surrealists like André Breton, cognitive scientists like Douglas R. Hofstadter or the British comedy group Monty Python.
